Trump teases announcement in ‘very near future’ on second meeting with Kim

President Trump on Wednesday teased an announcement regarding a future meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, saying the details of the gathering will be divulged in the “very near future.”

“I’ll be meeting with Chairman Kim in the very near future. It’ll be announced. In fact, we’re having a press conference today. We’ll start talking about that,” the president told reporters after arriving at the United Nations General Assembly. “But we’ll be announcing where and when in the very near future.”

The president will be holding a press conference Wednesday evening in New York.

Trump and Kim met for a historic summit in Singapore in June, during which the two discussed plans to work toward a denuclearized Korean Peninsula.

The president told reporters that Kim “wants good things to happen for North Korea” and heralded the “wonderful relationship” between the U.S. and Pyongyang.

“North Korea is going along very well,” he said. “We really have a tremendous amount of progress since this time last year.”
