The Republican Party of Virginia is warning voters about a possible cases of voting machines turning Republican votes into ballots cast for Democratic candidates.
“RPV is monitoring an apparently problem with touch screen voting machines in Virginia Beach and some other localities. We have alerted local officials, as well as the Department of Elections,” the party said in an emailed press release. “We are reminding all voters using these machines to review their ballots carefully before they are cast.”
The party said that its official monitors have found these voting machine discrepancies in at least four different Congressional districts, including polling places in Arlington, Prince William County, Spotsylvania County, and in Virginia Beach. They attribute the vote switch to a bad calibration of the machines.
The Virginia GOP points to a video posted to YouTubethat appears to show a Virginia voting machine changing a vote for Republican Rep. Scott Rigell to a vote for his Democratic opponent Suzanne Patrick.
A similar vote switch reportedly happened in Illinois. A Republican candidate for a state office tried to vote for himself during the early voting period, but the machine repeatedly switched it to his Democratic opponent.
