Despite conservatives giving up hope on the millennial generation, one bright spot is how the internet generation has developed useful alternatives to the welfare state.
Michigan Live reported that Ramone Williams, a homeless 26-year-old senior at Eastern Michigan University, was down on his luck — he maxed out on pell grants and owed about $10,000 in federal student loans.
Ron French told his Williams’ story in Bridge Magazine, that the student with a 3.4 GPA was sleeping in a van or in the college library and was almost always hungry.
Victoria Burton-Harris saw his story and started a GoFundMe page for the homeless student. In just four days, more than 580 people donated $25,850.
“Ramone is overwhelmed with the amount of love and support shown to him over the last few days,” Burton-Harris said on her fundraising page. “Thankfully, our community is full of loving and caring people, and Ramone slept in a bed last night— the coldest night we’ve had this month.”
