Mark your calendars: Twinkies to return July 15

Last fall, America’s favorite golden snack cake was on the verge of vanishing from grocery store shelves forever. But thanks to two private equity firms who purchased Hostess after its closing, Twinkies’ extinction is only temporary.

Daren Metropoulos, principal of one of the company’s buyers, Metropoulos and Co., announced that Twinkies would return to grocery store shelves July 15, according to CNNMoney.

While the original creme-filled treat will remain unchanged, the new owners have redesigned the box, which markets the return as “the sweetest comeback in the history of ever.”

“America wanted Hostess back — they wanted the original,” Metropoulos told ABCNews. “A comeback by any other name could never be as sweet.”

The delectable dessert won’t be the only original aspect of the snacks returning. When Twinkies disappeared last November, they were being sold at $3.99 for a box of 10 — a price that will also remain the same when they hit stores in July.

And in conjunction with the return of Twinkies, the Hostess and Dolly Madison products including Ho Hos, Ding Dongs, fruit pies and CupCakes will also be sold. Other products like the coconut-covered Sno Balls will be available in the coming months.

So quit the bidding war on eBay, grab your reusable totes and head to your nearest grocery store July 15 to indulge in the Hostess homecoming.
