USA TODAY — President Obama said Monday that “we’re following all of the appropriate legal channels” to return Edward Snowden to the United States from Russia.
Obama said his aides are “working with various other countries” — which he did not identify — to make sure the “rule of law is observed” in the case against the man charged with espionage for divulging details of National Security Agency counterterrorism surveillance programs.
The president, who answered reporters’ shouted questions before meeting with business leaders about an immigration bill, declined to comment further, referring the matter to the Justice Department.
He spoke shortly after his press secretary, Jay Carney, said that the administration expects Russia to “look at all the options available to them” in order to return Snowden to the U.S. to face charges.
