As the Left goes extreme, millennials find themselves agreeing with the Right

When Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., gave a speech at a rally against government immigration policy, her message was clear: If you see anyone who’s recognizably affiliated with the Trump administration conducting their private affairs in public, they must be exiled and excised from public life.

This display of hatred, paired with other recent demonstrations by the radical Left, shows a big problem for Democrats: They are alienating portions of their base, pushing many center-left voters to the right.

The Democratic shift towards extremism is well-documented. Unsurprisingly, the Left’s growing radicalism has taken over the Democratic Party. The malicious parts of their base have driven many left-leaning voters into the arms of the GOP. This is because the center of the Republican Right has only moved a little in the same amount of time it took for the Democratic center to move so far to the left.

This trend is playing out on campus as well and the current state of America’s public school system could be a win for conservatives in the long run. When it comes to college campuses and free speech controversies, polling shows that people, both Right and Left, seem to be confused about the freedom of speech concept.

Those on the Right contend that due to the far-left nature of America’s universities, any message that runs counter to collectivist ideology is ridiculed and requires a safe space. This, again, will precipitate a win for Republicans. Debate and deliberation are encouraged by young members of the GOP, while many of their leftist counterparts remain calling for censorship, affirmative action, rioting, and segregation on college campuses. The more chaotic the campus becomes, the more moderate young conservative thought will seem.

In addition, millennials who identify with the GOP are also more open to notions of LGBT rights, climate change, and lax immigration policies. Many young, potential Democratic voters now embrace conservative fiscal policies, citing beneficial tax cuts and economic growth.

Republicans have accepted a new voting bloc. Government waste is evident at every level, and liberal millennials are starting to notice. They don’t want to give pockets full of cash to a big and inefficient bureaucracy. So, instead, they’re voting red.

Whether or not young people agree with everything on the Right, many do not agree with what the Democratic Party is becoming. This only opens opportunity for the GOP that only the Democrats could create.
