How Cleveland’s selection as host of the Republican National Convention has nothing to do with LeBron James

The Republican National Committee (RNC) is taking its talents to Cleveland.

The RNC tapped Cleveland as the home of the 2016 Republican National Convention earlier Tuesday. In a humorous coincidence, the announcement came on the four-year anniversary of LeBron James’ infamous “The Decision” special, during which he abandoned his home-state Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA for the Miami Heat.

The Miami Heat of Sen. Marco Rubio’s home state of Florida.

Rubio took to Twitter, congratulating Cleveland for its selection as the host of the Republican National Convention. He also speculated that it won’t soon be the home of a returning native son of sorts.

Some basketball fans believe Cleveland’s nod to host the convention means LeBron James could be the GOP nominee in 2016.

Others wonder if Cleveland hosting the Republican National Convention  is a ploy from Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.

All this nomination speculation would mean LeBron James is a Republican. With his previous campaign contributions and friendship with President Obama, that’s extremely doubtful. Though after seeing the taxes he’ll possibly have to pay on a new contract, LeBron could switch parties by 2016.

Whether he’ll switch teams, that’s still unknown.
