Marco Rubio: ‘Sexual preference is something that people are born with’

GOP presidential candidate Marco Rubio said on “Face the Nation” Sunday that sexual preference isn’t a “choice.”

“I … don’t believe that your sexual preferences are a choice for the vast enormous majority of people,” Rubio told CBS host Bob Schieffer. “In fact, the bottom line is that I believe that sexual preference is something that people are born with.”

The Florida Senator, who announced his candidacy last week, also explained his position on the issue of gay marriage.

“It’s not that I’m against gay marriage,” said Rubio. “I believe the definition of the institution of marriage should be between one man and one woman. States have always regulated marriage. And if a state wants to have a different definition, you should petition the state legislature and have a political debate.”

“I don’t think courts should be making that decision and I don’t believe that same-sex marriage is a constitutional right,” Rubio added.

The Republican presidential contender also made headlines last week when he said that he would attend a gay wedding of someone he cares about.
