In the latest instance of pop culture influencing politics, Funny Or Die is out with a Mary Poppins minimum wage protest that imagines the fictional nanny quitting her job over low pay.
“The pay’s too low. I can’t live on this dough,” actress Kristen Bell’s interpretation of Poppins sings of her $7.25 minimum wage.
But “just a three dollar increase can make a living wage,” she continues — almost the exact increase called for by the president and legislation backed by Democrats.
The video also imagines an animated penguin couple bickering, lost to smoking and drinking over its inability to make ends meet. The two children under Poppins’ care observe bemusedly.
Senate Democrats dutifully endorsed the vid.
