New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie greeted hundreds of people in Milwaukee, Wis. on Tuesday to rally in support of Gov. Scott Walker, the embattled Wisconsin governor who is facing a recall election on June 5.
“I am proud to stand with Scott Walker,” said Gov. Christie to a cheering crowd holding up ‘Stand with Walker’ signs. “You know Wisconsin would be in a significantly worst place if Mr. Barrett had won this election back in November of 2010.”
The latest Polls show Governor Walker with a lead over both likely Democratic rivals in the Wisconsin recall election. Walker is up against Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett 50 to 45 percent and former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk 50 to 43 percent.
Christie went on to say, “Do not doubt for a second that Wisconsin is moving forward because you elected a strong leader to make the hard decisions to force Wisconsin forward. On June 5, Wisconsin is going to send the strongest message all across America for freedom and liberty by sending Scott Walker back to the State house.”
Gov. Walker also addressed the crowd by asking for everyone’s vote on June, 5. “Our unemployment rate is back down to 6.8%. The lowest it has been since 2008…
“What we did last year wasn’t about politics. We did it so our children can have a better future. We do it for our kids. We do it for our grandkids. That is what this election is about. Are we going to continue to move forward so that our children can have a better future or are we going to move backwards?”
Walker’s decision to reform collective-bargaining rights for public employee unions ignited a political war that has many union organizations spending tens of millions of dollars in the state in hopes of recalling the Governor. Scott Walker came out yesterday saying he has raised $13 million dollars in just over three months.
This was Christie’s first appearance in Wisconsin for Governor Scott Walker since he has been recalled.
Monday, in Plainsboro, N.J., Christie made headlines when he said he could be convinced to join the Republican presidential ticket. Christie is a favorite in many polls for the Vice President slot among republicans.
