Pokémon Go has taken the country, and many college campuses, by storm, but the College of the Ozarks has decided there are just some places it shouldn’t be played, Inside Higher Ed reported.
College of the Ozarks is on Young America’s Foundation’s Top Conservative College List.
The College of the Ozarks is asking that community members not play the game on its campus to ensure visitors to the Missouri Vietnam Veterans and 9/11 “Lest We Forget” memorial are able to quietly reflect.
The app has not been completely banned, as students are still allowed to play in their residence halls and outdoor common areas.
Pokémon Go has had players coming together for the app, but also wandering around on the streets and to important landmarks to find rare Pokémon or to use as a Pokémon gym. Sites are often picked without knowing, as the Holocaust Memorial Museum discovered, which is also asking visitors to refrain from playing.
BGR actually ranked 17 most inappropriate places to play the app, with the Holocaust Memorial Museum being number two and Auschwitz itself being number one.
It’s sad that people need to be explicitly told not to use the app at the above places. Then again, young people have a dependence on their smartphones and a majority don’t even put them down during the day.
