LAS VEGAS – President Barack Obama came here Tuesday to launch an immigration reform push built around the clear principle that there must be a path to citizenship secured for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country.
“We’ve got to lay out a path-a process that includes passing a background check, paying taxes, paying a penalty, learning English and then going to the back of the line,” Obama said in Las Vegas, as he launched a push for what he called “common sense” reform.
“A call for action can now be heard coming from all across America,” Obama said. “Now’s the time.”
Obama praised the work of the bipartisan group of senators that released its own plan Monday, but said that if the Senate did not act on it, he would send his own bill to Congress for an up or down vote.
