Producer of marijuana docu-comedy plans to pass out free weed at Colorado screening

Adam Hartle, the producer of an independent docu-comedy titled “Mile High: The Comeback of Cannabis,” may be a marketing genius.

People attending screenings of the film in Denver and Boulder, Colorado this week will be greeted at the door with a unique party favor: free marijuana.

“I’ll be standing outside the Mayan and Boulder theaters before each screening this week, handing out a small amount of legal marijuana to anyone over 21 with a valid ID to take home and enjoy responsibly,” Hartle told Deadline.

“Mile High: The Comeback of Cannabis” is about Colorado’s Amendment 64, which legalized the use of recreational marijuana in 2012. The film includes interviews with doctors, politicians, advocates, and average people with an opinion on Amendment 64. Hartle’s own standup comedy is also woven throughout the film.

Colorado law allows adults over 21 to possess and give away small amounts of marijuana to anyone else who is of age, so Hartle’s stunt is completely legal. He isn’t even requiring that people buy a ticket to his film to take advantage of his offer.

“No purchase necessary, but we highly encourage you to stay and watch the film,” Hartle said.

That’s definitely one way to get people to come see your film.
