Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) isn’t a big fan of the this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference for deciding not to invite New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a move King calls “a suicidal death wish.”
King’s comment came during an Friday night interview on CNN‘s ‘The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.’ The Congressman described Christie as a “hero of conservatives,” and Blitzer countered by saying Christie had not received a CPAC invite.
“That’s a suicidal death wish,” King responded. “CPAC, to me, loses all credibility.”
He added that Republicans should not allow CPAC to be the be the “door you have to go through” to launch one’s presidential run.
“I think Republicans should say they are not going to CPAC,” King said. “If you can’t accept Chris Christie as a conservative, then you’re really just asking for another election loss in 2016, and it makes us look crazy in the eyes of the American people.”
“I guess you’re not going to get an invitation to CPAC yourself, Congressman,” the Blitzer noted.
King had previously spoken to The Hill about the Christie snub, calling it “narrow-minded bigotry.”
