Mark Cuban wants to be a Republican, but says he can’t be until they change on social issues

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban wants to be a Republican, but he wants them to get rid of their base of social conservatives first.

During a Q&A on the Cyber Dust app, Cuban announced that he “would prefer to be a Republican” but says there’s a “much bigger problem” than social issues like abortion and gay marriage that will “crush” the party until they fix it.

““I would prefer to be a Republican. I want smaller government. I want smarter government. Just like most Republicans. Put aside that I disagree with Republicans on most social issues. The Republicans have a much bigger problem that will crush them in every presidential election until this changes,” Cuban said.

The billionaire said that he has a problem with the fact that the party demands that all their presidential candidates conform to a consensus.

“If you don’t agree with every platform of the party not only are you called a RINO, a ‘Republican in Name Only,” he continued. “You are considered unelectable in primaries and become a source of scorn on Fox News. That’s a problem.”

Cuban said that he believes “leaders don’t conform to the consensus,” they “create consensus to their vision and goals.”

He didn’t lay all the blame on Republicans. He said Democrats do the same thing but added, “but I don’t want to be a Democrat.”

“Until things change, I’ll sit in the middle and think for myself. Unlike Republicans,” Cuban said.

No offense to Cuban, but he doesn’t know what he’s saying.

There are socially conservative Republicans like former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, moderates like Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and liberal-leaning Republicans like Sen. Mark Kirk (R- Ill.).

The GOP has different people with different beliefs. It’s the big tent party. Come swim in the GOP pool Cuban, the water’s fine.
