Saturday Night Live’s most recent “Cold Open” featured a sketch on a week in the GOP, which inevitably took shots at GOP front-runner Donald Trump and his supposed racist supporters. The show couldn’t help continuing the trend, with the very next sketch after host Jonah Hill’s monologue.
The “Votes for Trump” ad started off harmless enough, with various white voters as a voice for what “real Americans” are saying about Trump. Such lines include:
- “The guy’s a winner”
- “He’s authentic”
- “He’s the only one who’s actually created jobs”
- “He literally wrote the book on negotiating”
- “He’s an outsider, and Washington needs that”
- “I think he can make this country great again.”
As it turns out though, while the voters are revealing more positive aspects, they’re all engaging in some horrifying activities:
- Wearing Nazi arm bands
- Ironing KKK suits
- Painting ‘white power’ on a house
- Adding to their Muslim conspiracy theory string board
- Burning books
- Bringing firewood to a cross burning ceremony
Not surprisingly, the ad is supposed to come from “Racists for Donald Trump.” Gone must be the memory of how Trump brought the season’s best ratings to Saturday Night Live. But, the ad also quite obviously fails to take into account how anyone could give such explanations for why they would vote for a candidate without being a racist.
Despite the Trump ad and the opening monologue, Trump’s support from David Duke wasn’t mentioned in the “Weekend Update” segment or elsewhere.
