The Affordable Fare Act: Spirit Airlines jumps on the Obamacare train wreck

Spirit Airlines is jumping on the Obamacare train wreck, unveiling a new promotion called the Affordable Fare Act to advertise their low-price tickets at the expense of President Barack Obama and his signature healthcare law.

Fresh on the heels of their Toronto Mayor Rob Ford-inspired promotion, Spirt Airlines released a new ad campaign called the Affordable Fare Act. Inspired by the Affordable Care Act, the promotion boasts the promise “if you like your low fares, you can keep your low fares,” a dig at President Barack Obama’s “if-you-like-your-plan-you-can-keep-it” lie.

“If you like your low fares, you can keep your low fares … because our website actually works!” the promotion states. “Take advantage of our Affordable Fare Act with this deal!”

Spirit goes on to detail “club fares” for as low as $19.90 one way and non-member fares starting at $29.90 one way.

The airline company has made a habit of capitalizing on scandals plaguing the political world. Following the revelation that scorned Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) sent tawdry photos to a woman by the name of Sydney Leathers and operated under the alias Carlos Danger, Spirit announced a campaign called “The Weiner Rises Again.”

And as Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s extracurricular activities spread across two continents, the airline company announced it would offer discounts on flights to Toronto through their “We’re Not Smoking Crack” deal.

Obamacare’s failed website, healthcare.gov, has been the butt of a bevy of jokes, with late-night television hosts capitalizing on the train wreck almost nightly. Many users are still having trouble getting onto the sight, even though it launched more than a month ago.

Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius even witnessed the malfunctions first hand while visiting Miami on Tuesday. As a woman attempted to register for insurance via healthcare.gov, she received a notice saying the system was temporarily down.
