For Wednesday night’s 49th annual Country Music Awards, co-hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood got a little political with their “Cray Cray” song.
NewsBusters provided a transcript and video of the relevant political parts of the song which included Bruce Jenner, Donald Trump, and Josh Duggar’s involvement with the Ashley Madison dating site:
Underwood: Hey now.
Paisley: ♪♪ And Trump’s leading in the polls.
Underwood: Actually, Brad, he’s slipping.
Paisley: He’s slipping?
Both: ♪♪ Totes. Cray Cray.
…
Paisley: Actually, Ashley Madison did have a big hit this year. Who can forget —
Both: ♪♪ Your cheating start never said beware ♪♪ ♪♪ it just said life’s short have an affair ♪♪ ♪♪ bored with your wife and your sister, too ♪♪ ♪♪ your cheating side will tell on you ♪♪ ♪♪
Paisley: Josh Duggar.
The audience of country music stars found the song funny, and cheered during the line about Trump. Even Rolling Stone found the diddy worth a laugh, as they ranked it in as part of the “5 Funniest CMA Awards Moments.” They did note that GLAAD will probably not take lightly to the Jenner remark though:
Later in the show, Paisley and Underwood also joked about presidential candidates Hillary Clinton, with her e-mail server, and Ben Carson’s energy:
Underwood: Yeah, we e-mailed Hillary Clinton but all we got was an auto reply from the Justice Department, I don’t know what that was about.
Paisley: So we still don’t know anything there. I called Ben Carson, I think I woke him up, because he said — and I quote — [mumbling]. Which I’m pretty sure was, “We’re one big country nation, that’s right.”
While Paisley mentioned that their goal is to not be political, they certainly did. Fortunately it was in such a way that should be able to draw laughs from most.
