Just hours after violent protesters tried to shut down a libertarian scholar’s speech at the University of Notre Dame, a liberal professor at Drexel University is urging his students to do the same.
After being scheduled to speak at Notre Dame on Tuesday, American Enterprise Institute’s Charles Murray was met with protesters who accuse him of promoting “racism” and “classism” in his research. The political scientist was physically assaulted and shut down at Middlebury College in New York weeks ago, and his event was denounced at New York University on Friday.
Now, a professor at Drexel is urging students to block Murray from his campus, where he is scheduled to speak next.
“Philly! white supremacist ideologue @charlesmurray will be speaking @VillanovaU on Thursday- please do what you can to make this impossible!” George Ciccariello-Maher, a self-described communist, tweeted Tuesday evening.

Ciccariello is infamous for his racist (and off-the-wall) remarks against white people, none of which seemed to warrant suspension from Drexel thus far. Last December, he said “all I want for Christmas is white genocide.” When he was confronted about it, he brushed it off as a joke and deflected, “white isn’t even a race.” He seems to have forgotten that back in 2015, he said he wanted to “abolish the white race” because all white Americans secretly wish they can kill black people. As if that wasn’t enough, Ciccariello bragged about a conversation he had with his son about poisoning white people, and later tweeted “#Gulag these racist crackers” in response to a video showing Arabic-speaking men being kicked off the plane.
Murray is known for promoting welfare reform and limited government. It is hardly likely any of his dissenters accusing him of supporting “eugenics” have read any of his work to begin with. But of course, describing himself as libertarian was enough to elicit violence from campus mobs.
Ciccariello, on the other hand, is still perfectly safe in his position as visiting professor at Drexel. Back in December, after he called for “white genocide,” the university simply responded by saying they will have a “talk” with him about his tweets. That didn’t seem to help, seeing as the communist professor is still calling for violence against a professor because of his political views. He is still teaching young students.
Whether Drexel will have another “talk” with the genocidal professor remains to be seen. For now, Drexel progressives are dealing with a much scarier storm approacing their campus Thursday: ideas they might not agree with. Oh no.
