Who could possibly forget this epic photo?
Late night host Jimmy Kimmel certainly hadn’t, so when he had the chance to interview actor Jamie Foxx Wednesday night, he simply had to get the back story.
Foxx has been the host of this annual charity event for several years.
“What’s interesting is that every year that we’ve done this, since I’ve been involved, I’ve always somehow gotten Republicans on stage to dance,” Foxx told Kimmel. “I know that sounds weird and I know that is coming form out of nowhere, but you have to know the room.”
Last year, he got Colin Powell to dance to “Gold Digger.”
“This year it was crazy because I see Gov. Chris Christie there. I see him and I said, ‘Look, I might need you up there today.’ ‘Ya, whatever, whatever, whatever.’ He was jolly,” Foxx recounted.
“So Gov. Christie goes up and then that whole night Sen. [John] McCain and his wife were not looking at me while we’re sitting down at the table. We’re right here [demonstrates distance] and I can tell they are trying to feel me out. But when I got on stage and we saw Christie get up, I looked out to see what Sen. McCain was doing and he was like, ‘Come on. What’s up? Come on with it.’ I said, ‘You ready?’ And he said, ‘Come on with it.’ And he got up there.”
Foxx said he couldn’t quite describe McCain’s dance moves, but he knows “he had an absolute ball.”
The only Republican he hasn’t successfully gotten on stage is Fox host Bill O’Reilly, Foxx said ruefully.
Kimmel then suggested that Foxx should be the bridge to bipartisanship in Washington.
