Former President George H.W. Bush celebrated his 90th birthday by jumping out of a plane, and the extended Bush family came to cheer him on, leading to the kind of conversation only a couple American families can have.
In an interview with granddaughter and Today Show correspondent Jenna Bush Hagar, Barbara Bush said that she is always proud of her husband and that “he certainly was the best president ever.”
George W. Bush quickly appears on the scene, but instead of taking offense at his mother’s evaluation, he heartily agrees. When he adds that his mother ranks as the second best first lady, she suggests that she actually places third, after Lady Bird Johnson and daughter-in-law Laura.
“I had you right up there with Martha Washington,” W. protests, to which his mother instantly quips, “I look like her.”
The Bush clan might have to revise their ranking system if brother Jeb takes office in 2016.
