Anyone who knows anything about rap or country knows that the two genres should always be combined.
Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry is clearly in on the secret of “hick hop” and he showed off his Millennial appeal Thursday by coming on stage to a remix of the 2012 song by Colt Ford, “Answer to No One.”
Sure to be a hit, the song reveals the presidential hopeful’s ability to stay relevant and cool in a world more and more dominated by young people.
It is unconfirmed whether Perry plans to move into the music industry when his political career comes to an end.
Full of conservative themes, the song has lines like “Rick Perry supporter, let’s protect our border,” and “To hell with anyone who don’t believe in the USA, Rick Perry all the way.”
It goes on, rhyming “Give me my right to vote / My right to tote / The weapon of my choice / Don’t censor my voice.”
The song is another in a series of politically charged compositions, following in the footsteps of “Set it on Fire,” a song written for the Ted Cruz campaign. The difference is that this song was officially used by the Perry campaign, and is not just an unofficial song in favor of the presidential hopeful.
Who exactly lead him to believe that this was a good idea is unknown, but that person certainly has a promising career ahead in political campaigning.
