Infamous ‘Deflategate’ football to be auctioned for upwards of $25K

This could cause quite the bidding war.

Sports auction house Lelands is hosting an auction for one of the infamous “Deflategate” footballs used during the AFC Championship Game between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts on January 18 at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, according to Time.

The couple that currently has possession of the ball allegedly received it from a Patriots player after it was used in a touchdown during the game.

In the controversy that unfolded after the AFC Championship Game and became known as “Deflategate,” the Patriots were investigated when it was discovered that several of the game balls were deflated.

The team has since endured a substantial fine and lost draft picks, and quarterback Tom Brady has received a games-long suspension for the 2015 NFL season.

Lelands describes the piece, appropriately, as “the ball that will live in infamy.”

Bidding for the item commences on July 18 at 9pm and starts at a whopping $25,000. Interested parties should take note that “pre-registration” is required to bid on the football.

Who knew Tom Brady’s balls would be so pricey.
