Women account for more than 25 percent of concealed hand gun licenses in the state of Texas — just this past year, almost 67,000 women there got permits to carry a concealed firearm.
The surge has opened up a new market for creative ways to conceal the equpiment, WFAA in Texas reports.
Traditional holsters are made to be comfortable on a man’s body, so many women have to store their weapon in their purse, which is not ideal in an emergency situation. The Well Armed Woman, “the resource for the woman gun owner” on the web, has taken advantage of this booming industry with its line of lacy garters, ankle straps, waistbands, and the particularly popular bra holsters.
“It’s kind of a natural location, depending on the size of the gun and the size of the ‘guns,’ ” joked Carrie Lightfoot, owner of the company.
Lightfoot stresses the importance of a holster that is compatible with every outfit change, because women go from dresses, to pants, to athletic wear all within a day. Even more important is knowing how to draw from different locations. To combat these issues, The Well Armed Woman held an event in Texas to show women their numerous holster options and teach them proper draw techniques.
