Will former President George W. Bush step up to the #IceBucketChallenge?
The social media trend has hit the political and media spheres hard this week with tons of television hosts, along with governors and members of Congress, filming themselves pouring a bucket of ice water on their heads.
Challenge participants drench themselves in ice cold water to raise awareness and funds to combat Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Those who take the icy plunge film themselves then nominate others. Nominees have 24 hours to complete the challenge. If they choose not to dump the ice water on themselves, they must donate to ALS research or a charity of their choice.
President Barack Obama declined to play along, opting to not take time out of his Martha’s Vineyard vacation for the challenge. A White House spokesman said Obama would be donating money instead.
Now it might be George W. Bush’s turn. His daughter, Jenna Bush Hager, took the challenge on “The Today Show” Friday morning and decided to keep her nominations all in the family.
“I now nominate Laura Bush, ruin that helmet, George W. Bush, and my sister Barbara,” Hager said right before the ice water was dumped on her head. “Go for it peeps!”
