Rules for Radicals #3

Rule 3: Whenever possible, go outside the experience of an opponent. Here you want to cause confusion, fear, and retreat.

This week’s rule is the reverse side of Alinsky’s second rule (Never go outside the experience of your people. The result is confusion, fear, and retreat), which we examined last week. Although it is important for those on your side to be kept in their comfort zone, those on the other side must be kept uncomfortable. The left in America has kept this on full display.

This is why the left keeps pretending that Republicans are racist or homophobic or that they’re waging a “War on Women.” We know that we’re not racist, misogynist, or any kind of bigot. They attack financial success and stay-at-home-moms. Patriotism by children is even being mocked by adults. The left is saying that the right believes things that we don’t, and that the things the right does believe are somehow wrong.

They push and push, forcing us to be on the defensive and outside of our comfort zone. Unfortunately for them, we’re not taking it anymore. We on the right need have become aware of overplayed tactic. We are done pretending any of these arguments are worth having, and have stopped giving these charges even a hint of legitimacy by responding. We just roll our eyes and move on, recognizing these tactics for the acts of desperation that they are.

This tactic might be played out.
