Sorry, journos. Vice President Joe Biden won’t be hosting his annual beach bash for you.
Biden cancelled his yearly party, as POLITICO reported, but his office won’t comment on the possible motivation. It’s unknown whether or not sequestration — which the Obama administration blamed for the earlier cancellation of the White House tours — played a role.
Continuing a tradition of Vice Presidents hosting events for journalists, the Veep and his wife Dr. Jill Biden have thrown a summer beach party on their front lawn at the Naval Observatory since 2010. The party included rides, face painting, and a moon bounce for the kids, as well as water gun fights, in which Biden is an active participant.
Past guests of the Bidens have included then-White House chief of staff — and now current Chicago Mayor — Rahm Emanuel, CNN‘s Wolf Blitzer and Candy Crowley, MSNBC‘s Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow, CBS‘ Bob Schieffer, ABC‘s Ann Compton, PBS‘ Gwen Ifill and New York Times reporter David Sanger.
Past Vice President-hosted events for journalists include Al and Tipper Gore’s annual Halloween costume party and Dick and Lynne Cheney’s occasional cocktail party at their home.
