Marco Rubio refuses to comment on vice-presidential speculation

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) sought to downplay suggestions that he might be at the top of Mitt Romney’s short list for a running mate during an interview with David Gregory on NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday morning.

Gregory then played a tape of Rubio’s last Meet The Press appearance from last year, where he was much more upfront in defying any vice-presidential speculation, saying, “I won’t consider it. I don’t want to be the vice president of the United States.”

Rubio refused to comment and declined to discuss the vice presidential selection process any further.

In response to recent news about being vetted by the Romney campaign as part of their process for selecting a potential running mate, Rubio would only say that he is confident that Romney would make a great selection for vice president.

Even with intense media speculation, the Romney campaign has been very secretive on who they are considering to run as Romney’s vice-presidential nominee.
