The Clinton-Gore ticket now belongs to the vegan party

First, it was the 42nd president who turned to veganism. Now his former running mate and vice president reportedly has joined the party.

News about Al Gore’s new diet came as a brief mention in a Forbes magazine article about specialty food company Hampton Creek Foods, Inc. The article states that the San Francisco-based startup, which is on a mission to create a line of eggless food products, has the financial backing of the likes of Bill Gates — as well as the man Gates has to thank for “creating the Internet.”

“Newly turned vegan Al Gore is also circling,” the piece reads.

The Washington Post, which pointed out the “offhand reference,” confirmed the information with an individual familiar with Gore’s decision.

Gore follows in the footsteps of his old boss, Bill Clinton. The former president and current vegan told AARP Magazine that he chose to have a wholesale makeover of his dietary habits after undergoing emergency heart surgery in early 2010.

“I just decided that I was the high-risk person, and I didn’t want to fool with this anymore. And I wanted to live to be a grandfather,” Clinton said. “So I decided to pick the diet that I thought would maximize my chances of long-term survival.”
