Ooh Hillary, you’ve got some ‘splainin’ to do.
MRCTV’s Dan Joseph headed to George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., to chat with some students about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s flip-flop on gay marriage — with just one catch.
Joseph recited a quote from an anonymous politician and asked who they thought spoke the words. What they didn’t know was that Clinton, who has addressed the university before, was the culprit.
“Marriage has got historic, religious and moral content that goes back to the beginning of time, and I think a marriage is as a marriage has always been, between a man and a woman,” Clinton said in 2000.
When asked who said such words, many students began to rattle of the names of Republicans, from 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney to former Sen. Rick Santorum (Penn.) to “Paul Rand” — we’re assuming this student meant Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.)
Joseph then asked the students if they would be alright with someone who held such a viewpoint coming to speak on their campus.
The majority of students said they wouldn’t see someone who was against gay marriage speak at their northern Virginia campus and noted that they weren’t comfortable with the university inviting them at all.
Joseph proceeded to inform the students that it was none other than Clinton who said marriage was strictly between a man and a woman, leading to shock and surprise for some students.
Others, though, chalked her flip-flop up to politics.
“See, that doesn’t surprise me, because I know her and Obama like to flip their sides on how they feel about gay marriage,” one co-ed told Joseph. “If it’s going to get them a vote, then they’re all for it. If it’s not going to get them a vote, then marriage is strictly between a man and a woman.”
Though Clinton was against gay marriage nearly 15 years ago, she said her views have been “shaped over time.”
“That’s why I support marriage for lesbian and gay couples. I support it personally and as a matter of policy and law,” the 2016 hopeful said last year.
