Prince’s new song for Baltimore wants to ‘take all the guns away’

Iconic music artist, Prince, played a “Rally 4 Peace” benefit show in Baltimore on Sunday, where he debuted his new song “Baltimore.”

According to the Baltimore Sun, thousands of people showed up wearing gray “as a symbolic message of our shared humanity and love for one another.” Prince played his classic hits, but also premiered his new song about the recent riots.

The lyrics of the song read, “Enough is enough, its time for love, it’s time to hear the guitar play.”

Tucked among the lines about peace and justice, Prince took a swipe at gun rights in the song, “We’re tired and people dying… let’s take all the guns away.”

Prince has not spoken much about gun rights in the past and it is likely that the devout Jehovah’s Witness could have been singing from his religious background rather than making an overtly political statement.

When speaking about his religion in the past Prince has said, “When I look at the violence, I wonder where the parents are, but also where is God in their lives? A kid is an open computer ready for programming. Some weird relationships happen, smoking too early and sex.”
