McConnell: Obamacare ‘very unpopular,’ on ‘the way to collapse’

The new GOP-led Senate might not have enough votes to outright repeal Obamacare, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell believes an upcoming Supreme Court case, King v. Burwell, will give them a chance to essentially re-write it.

In an exclusive interview with Fox’s Greta Van Susteren on Thursday, McConnell predicted the “collapse” of Obamacare as we  know it.

“There are pieces of it that are very, very unpopular. They eliminated the 40-hour workweek, the individual insurance mandate, the medical device tax, the health insurance tax. And, by the way, there is a case before the Supreme Court on the issue of whether or not states that did not set up exchanges are entitled to the subsidies under Obamacare,” he said.

“…If they decide the law means what it said, if the plain language of the law is, in fact, the law, then I think Congress is entirely back in the whole debate about the whole thing, which would empower us, to use the golfer term, to have a mulligan–a do-over–on this whole issue. The Supreme Court could well decide that we get a second chance.”

Van Susteren also pointed out that if the GOP’s piecemeal approach to dismantling the “unpopular” parts of the law goes through, then there would be no money left to fund the law in its current form.

“I think it’s on the way to collapse,” McConnell said, agreeing with her assessment.

“And then what happens?” Van Susteren asked.

“Well, we go back and do it right,” McConnell said.
