Millennials want Jon Stewart to moderate a presidential debate

You can tell some people aren’t taking the election very seriously when they declare that they want a comedian to moderate a presidential debate.

More than 340,000 people, many of them millennials, have signed a petition on Change.org to demand that Stewart ask Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump the debate questions.

“Over the last 16 years, Jon Stewart has played an influential and iconic role in covering U.S. politics and media. We believe he should continue that tradition as a moderator at one of the 2016 Presidential Debates,” the petition stated.

It also went on to say that Stewart’s long history of interviewing elected officials both domestically and overseas makes him more than capable and qualified to host the debate.

“Mr. Stewart has interviewed 15 heads of state, 22 members of the United States Cabinet, 32 members of the United States Senate, 7 members of the United States House of Representatives, and scores of other political leaders from this country and around the world while establishing himself as the most trusted person in (satirical) news.”

The key word in that sentence is satire; Stewart isn’t a journalist and a lot of the time he wasn’t even that funny. He mixed the humor of a dozen comedy writers with progressive talking points and carefully edited clips to create a brand.

He’s partisan, self-aggrandizing, and a hack. While the idea of Stewart hosting the debate might be humorous, we already have a reality star and a world-class liar on the stage; we don’t need to add a clown.
