A poll released by Students for Life of America Friday shows that “young voters’ collective love affair with the president has abated.”
The poll suggests that college-age voters are becoming less likely to vote for Obama because of his policies on social issues. The group polled 805 young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 from May 25 until June 1, 2012.
According to SFLA’s website, “Survey findings showed little connection to the overwhelmingly liberal attitudes lazily ascribed to these voters—confirming an increased pro-life trend among Americans while presumably giving Big Abortion heartburn over the battles ahead.”
Specifically, the poll found that 34 percent of young voters are less likely to vote for Obama come fall because of his vote against the Born Alive Protect Act.
Moreover, the study shows that young adults are “pro-contraception” and not necessarily “pro-abortion.” The poll does not show an overwhelming desire for complete on-demand abortion but instead reveals support for easily available Plan B on college campuses.
SFLA also stresses that young adults are not sufficiently educated on issues surrounding abortion. For example, 48 percent of those polled did not know if Planned Parenthood performs abortions on pregnant women. Furthermore, approximately one third could not attribute a position on abortion to either Obama or Romney.
With more knowledge of Obama’s liberal position on abortion and other sensitive social issues, young adults may become more and more likely to vote conservative in the fall.
