Tuesday night’s episode of “The Daily Show” featured a segment spotlighting the North Carolina restaurant that offered its customers a discount for praying.
Correspondent Jordan Klepper traveled to Winston-Salem and visited Mary’s Gourmet Diner, which dealt out a 15 percent discount to every patron “praying in public” until the owner was threatened with a lawsuit from the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF).
According to the organization, restaurant owner Mary Haglund was violating the civil rights of atheists by offering the meal deal.
Haglund recently told reporters that she suspected Jon Stewart’s program would defend her in the segment.
As she predicted, Klepper spent the segment exposing the ridiculousness of the complaint, eventually labeling the FFRF folks “petty assh—s.”
The “Daily Show” reporter even spoke to two atheists who eat at the restaurant, both of whom disagreed with the lawsuit.
“I don’t feel like I have been discriminated against,” said one of the men, while the other labeled the FFRF representatives “dicks.”
