Republican challenger Karen Harrington is hoping the advantages of using social media will be enough to put her over the top in her bid for Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s (D-Fla.) Congressional seat this fall.
Wasserman Schultz is the Chair of the Democratic National Committee and the representative from Florida’s 20th district.
Harrington wanted to show her willingness to reach out to young voters and set her self apart from her opponent in this fall election in an exclusive interview with Red Alert Politics.
Wasserman Schulz “is somebody who supports bigger government and wants the young people to believe that what government is doing is going to secure their future. As a conservative and a small business owner I want young people to believe in themselves and to know that they can prepare a path to their future.”
In order to reach out to young people, Harrington is not only using both Facebook and Twitter, but she is spending more time at universities and Republican clubs in her district.
Unlike her Democratic opponent, Harrington believes in individual achievement.
“I want to put the power back in young people’s hands and encourage them to grow and become young entrepreneurs and business owners. Debbie believes that government can solve all the young people’s issues moving forward into the rest of their lives. I want to give the power back to those young people because they’re going to make our country successful.”
Harrington also wanted to get across her concern for what Democratic polices have done in just the last few years, citing that her opponent has been part of the problem.
“Youth is the future of our country, but really they are because if we don’t provide better opportunities for them as we move forward for them to come out of college and have jobs, it’s really going to be a matter of our national security.”
