Siding with Obama costs George Clooney his tequila

Customers at a Las Vegas bar and restaurant will have to get liquored up on something other than George Clooney’s tequila after the actor’s spat with a business magnate over Obamacare prompted the establishment to pull his product from its shelves.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Chayo Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar will no longer offer Casamigos, “a small batch, ultra premium tequila,” subsequent to Clooney’s verbal dispute with Steve Wynn about the president’s healthcare law during a recent dinner at one of Wynn’s restaurants. Clooney, a reliable Obama ally, co-founded the Casamigos label.

“Steve Wynn has done a lot of good and provided tens of thousands of jobs for the city of Las Vegas, unlike the millions of jobs the Affordable Care Act will destroy,” one of Chayo’s owners said, according to the paper. “We don’t want to be associated with that brand due to Mr. Clooney’s disrespect for Mr. Wynn at his own property.”

The event that spurred Chayo’s decision involved an allegedly intoxicated Clooney standing up and throwing what Wynn called a “hissy fit” at the dinner table after a business colleague made a crack about Mikhail Gorbachev.

“Then he sat down and started talking about the Affordable Care Act, and that’s when I spoke up. He didn’t like that either. I think my discussion about the Affordable Care Act was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” Wynn said about the incident. Clooney was reported to have stormed out after the exchange.

Chayo’s “featured tequilas” include offerings from Don Julio and Patron. Conmigos is not listed as an option on the menu on the restaurant’s website.
