A new Google Glass gun app currently in its testing phase is exciting gun enthusiasts as it gives shooters the ability to shoot from unsupported positions with accuracy and precision.
Here’s how it works: The TrackingPoint Precision Guided Firearm communicates with a WiFi-connected mobile device — smart phone, tablet and, now, Google Glass — and streams real-time video of the view from the rifle’s scope, which is equipped with a camera. Called Shotview, the app gives shooters the ability to accurately shoot from around corners, behind walls and barricades, and in positions that offer cover.
A video advertising the gun app outlines the technology’s practical, everyday uses, including collaboration on a hunt among friends and a father teaching his son to shoot accurately.
While consumers can download the app to their smartphones and tablets, TrackingPoint, the company developing the app, told The Huffington Post they have no plans to release the Google Glass app to the public.
The hands-free experience offered through Google Glass does have tremendous military applications, though. The Army recently purchased six fire control systems from TrackingPoint, and U.S. Special Forces are exploring technology similar to Google Glass.
