While most news outlets live-tweeting Wednesday night’s debate focused on the sparring between the Republican presidential candidates, the College Republican National Committee focused on engaging young voters with funny messages, as well as and tweeting the most positive and patriotic moments from the debate.
In a press release, the CRNC noted that their most popular tweets of the night included praise for Carly Fiorina’s performance, Jeb Bush’s defense of his brother President George W. Bush, and Ben Carson’s message that this country is “of, for, and by the people.”

The committee also tweeted to the candidates during the debate, asking them to address the young voters in the audience and the cost of education.
“One of the rules of politics that our party doesn’t always recognize is that when we want people to vote for us, we generally have to ask them to. By reaching out to younger voters via direct mail or television ads, you’re targeting them in places that they aren’t. That is why the CRNC’s social media handles are so important to reaching out to voters who are so eager to listen,” CRNC Chairman Alex Smith said at the end of the night.
