According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Nick Searcy is set to team up with actors Dean Cain and Earl Billings for the film. The script was written by Andrew Klavan who drew upon the court documents and grand jury report.
The film will show the investigation by Detective James Wood, played by Cain, that ultimately led to the downfall and conviction of Gosnell, who will be played by Billings.
Gosnell was originally planned to be a TV movie but now is set to hit the big screen. According to several producers, the movie began shooting on Thursday in Oklahoma City.
While many Hollywood films have portrayed abortions in a positive light, this film will describe the procedure in more gruesome and realistic detail. Part of the film is set to include how the doctor would charge different prices for anesthesia depending on how much pain the patient was willing to endure and the race of the victim.
The real life Gosnell charged minority women more money for procedures and used cleaner equipment on white women.
It was also show how the abortionist killed hundreds of viable children by sticking scissors into their necks.
Most surprisingly is that the film is set to take a swipe at the media, blaming them for covering up the story over the last few decades.
Funding for the $2.3 million film was raised on the crowdfunding website Indiegogo.
