Liberals attack the ACLU for defending Milo’s free speech

Liberals love the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) for filing an injunction that challenged President Trump’s travel ban from seven Muslim majority countries. Now, all that love is going down the toilet as the ACLU voiced how important it is to protect Milo Yiannopoulos’ right to speak.

Lee Rowland, a senior staff attorney at the ACLU, told the Washington Post that Yiannopoulos is “absolutely hateful and despicable — but those adjectives don’t remove his speech from the Constitution’s protection.”

She continued. “To the contrary, it’s easy to protect speech we agree with, but more important to protect speech we abhor, lest the First Amendment simply become a popularity contest.”

Rowland is 100 percent correct. Yet, many triggered liberals don’t see it that way, especially after companies like Lyft pledged millions of dollars to the organization.

While slamming the ACLU, liberals began conflating Milo’s outing of students with his right to speak. But as Rowland pointed out before, his methods may be uncouth and sometimes downright dangerous, but nevertheless he has the right to say them within the confines of the First Amendment.

At this time, the ACLU has denied legally representing Yiannopoulos, only that they support his First Amendment rights.
