Ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s is churning out support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
“Black Lives Matter. Choosing to be silent in the face of such injustice is not an option,” they posted on Twitter last Friday.

The ice cream makers elaborated in a statement on their website.
“We do not place the blame for this on individual officers. Rather, we believe it is due to the systemic racism built into the fabric of our institutions at every level, disadvantaging and discriminating against people of color in ways that go beyond individual intent to discriminate… All lives do matter. But all lives will not matter until Black lives matter.”
Twitter users responded by creating the hashtag #BenAndJerrysNewFlavor and making suggestions for a BLM-themed flavor.

The founders of the brand, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, are known to be politically active. This year, they supported Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders for president, even releasing a flavor in his honor. Sanders stated his support for Black Lives Matter during one of the primary debates between him and now-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
