The hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe slammed Hillary Clinton on Monday, calling her a hypocrite for denouncing rumors that President Obama is a Muslim after her campaign encouraged the story in 2008.
Clinton attacked Donald Trump late last week for not correcting a man who referred to Obama as Muslim at a campaign rally in New Hampshire.
“Donald Trump not denouncing false statements about POTUS & hateful rhetoric about Muslims is disturbing, & just plain wrong. Cut it out,” Clinton tweeted on Thursday, adding “-H” to signify that she wrote the tweet.
Morning Joe hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough pointed out that the rumors all started with an interview Clinton did on 60 Minutes during the 2008 Democratic primary.
Journalist John Heilemann, who co-authored “Game Change 2010” and “Double Down: Game Change 2012,” two books about the presidential campaigns, was on the panel and agreed with the two hosts that Clinton started the rumors.
“It was the case,” Heilemann affirmed.
