Things have gone from bad to worse at the University of Missouri. Now professors who choose to hold class are receiving death threats — one teacher has even resigned over the incident.

Associate professor of nutrition and exercise physiology Dan Brigham submitted his letter of resignation on Wednesday after he received multiple death threats for choosing to hold a test despite fears many students had due to threats against the campus, according to NBC News.

“If you give in to bullies, they win,” the professor wrote in an email to students. “The only way bullies are defeated is by standing up to them. If we cancel the exam, they win; if we go through with it, they lose.”

Brigham received a huge backlash including death threats from students and announced his resignation early Wednesday morning.

In one email, students threatened that they would release his email address on social media to bully the professor.

“It has been shown, you’re careless about the lives of “minorities”, you should be ashamed of yourself. You filthy equality disputed pig,” the email said. “It’s good that you’ve been unmasked, and you SHOULD in fact feel in danger just as those minorities. You don’t deserve to uphold the privilege of teaching. Quit your f***king job you dimwit white peon. I’m sure you’re being attacked via cyber-communication; THAT’S F***KING GOOD.”

“Just by the way, I have over 185,000+ on the social network Vine, and I WILL be posting your email on my feed and let people vent to you and see how you like it, enjoy,” the email concluded.

It’s sad that the professor gave into the same bullying he told his students to fight against.
