In what should be a match made in heaven for traffic, Donald Trump will be expanding his social media presence to appear for an AMA (ask me anything) session on Reddit on Wednesday. He’s already regarded as the most effective candidate when it comes to social media, and Reddit is one of the most popular websites.
The AMA is hosted by r/The_Donald, which “serves as a hub for a prankish and sometimes outrageous band of conservative users who skew young and male and take special pleasure in tweaking liberal sensitivities on topics like gender, race and immigration,” according to NBC News. The subreddit also delights in creating memes of Trump.
There’s no formal relationship between the campaign and the subreddit, but Brad Parscale, digital director for Trump, is a frequent visitor and encouraged the group to draft a memo inviting the candidate, which he accepted days after becoming the nominee.
The AMA won’t be open to everyone, as moderators will only allow for established users and will screen comments. Other accounts have formed in response to counter-act r/The_Donald, including r/EnoughTrumpSpam.
“My team can expect a record amount of trolls, shills and rule-breakers; but Mr. Trump won’t have to deal with any of that,” user Velostodon told NBC News. The subreddit has also faced issues internally and from Reddit itself.
“First Reddit ignored our sub. Then Reddit laughed at our sub. Then Reddit fought our sub with Hillary’s paid haters. And now we are winning with our God Emperor, the Nimble Navigator, Mr. Donald J. Trump!” an announcement from July 25 read. The Trump campaign also issued a press release on Monday.
Trump will begin answering questions at 7 p.m. Users will be able to start asking at around 6:30 p.m., when the post goes out.
