President Barack Obama has declared that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s tenure at Bain Capital is fair game, and not a “distraction” from real issues.
Obama stepped up his attacks on Romney Monday during his press conference at the end of the NATO Summit, where the president had an international audience, according to the Washington Post.
Part of the Obama campaign’s strategy is to undermine his Republican challenger’s credentials as a job creator.
In return, Romney has repeatedly criticized the president for his perceived “failed economic policies.”
President Obama argued that Bain’s priority]is “to maximize profits. And that’s not always going to be good for communities or businesses or workers.”
The president also said: “This is what this campaign is going to be about.”
Obama wants to get across the message that profit making and success in the business world is not qualification for the White House.
It is a sign that the summer campaigning season will soon be in full swing, with both candidates spending plenty of money on television ads and touring the nation, especially in the swing states.
President Obama’s remarks on Bain came just one day after Newark, N. J. Mayor Cory Booker (D), criticized the president for not sticking to the issues, referring to the attacks on Bain as ‘nauseating.’
The Romney campaign fired back at President Obama’s anti-Bain attacks Monday on their website, stating that the president is attacking the free enterprise system.
“President Obama refuses to accept moral responsibility for his failed policies. My campaign is offering a positive agenda to help America get back to work.”
