Obamacare sends $1 million grant to Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood may be under scrutiny and investigation, but that won’t affect its Obamacare grant funding. About $1 million was sent to chapters in Iowa, Missouri and Montana, the Washington Time reports.

As it turns out, the grants are nothing new, as the chapters were also funded in 2013 and 2014. The total $67 million sent out as part of navigator grant is a $7 million increase from last year though. The Planned Parenthood chapters are part of 100 groups receiving such grants to assist people signing up for Obamacare.

Spokesman Aaron Albright for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid told the Washington Times that grant applications “were reviewed by an objective review panel and received a score based on their ability to address the requirements of the [funding opportunity announcement] related to connecting uninsured individuals to coverage options.”

The Iowa, Missouri and Montana chapters are part of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). According to their latest annual report, PPFA took in $528.4 million for 2013-2014.
