Several hundred conservative activists rallied in Wisconsin on Saturday to protest liberal media bias in the state after reports that many of the news staff from these same outlets signed petitions to recall Scott Walker. Marchers met outside newspaper headquarters and TV news stations in Milwaukee, Manitowoc and Green Bay as part of Media Research Center’s 2012 “Tell the Truth!” campaign.
“The media is so obviously biased, yet many people don’t notice,” said Linda Sieker, one of the protesters from Green Bay. “I want to make the public more aware of this, while also sending a message to the media that we won’t put up with their deceit anymore.”
Approximately 30 people protested outside the offices of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
“The Journal Sentinel never tells both sides of the story and they are always biased,” said Domerica Erskine. “We want the truth.”
In Manitowoc, protesters marched outside the Herald Times Reporter. In Green Bay they assembled at three different locations; the Green Bay Press Gazette, WBAY-TV, and WFRV-TV.
All four local TV news organizations in Milwaukee made statements this week that several staff members had signed the recall walker petitions, and they promised to provide additional training and move reporters away from the recall story as needed.
On March 23, The Green Bay Press-Gazette reported that 25 Gannett Media employees, who work at several of the newspapers in Wisconsin, had signed the recall petition. There is a searchable database of signed recall petitions at www.iverifytherecall.com.
