Republicans across the country demanding action in the wake of five undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood executives discussing the sale of fetal organs after a baby was aborted.
While an attempt to defund Planned Parenthood stalled in the Senate, several states have succeeded in doing what Congress could not.
Alabama, New Hampshire, and Louisiana all defunded Planned Parenthood in the last several weeks, according to Life Site News.
The debate in New Hampshire was especially contentious after the Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan pleaded with the state’s Executive Council on Wednesday to continue funding the organization. The council is made up of three Republicans and two Democrats.
Washington Examiner reported that the deciding vote against the abortion provider was cast by pro-choice councilor Republican Chris Sununu, a likely candidate for the 2016 governor election.
This is the largest group of states to defund Planned Parenthood since 2011 when 10 states stripped more $61 million from the abortion provider, according to the Susan B. Anthony List.
Not all states have joined in the Planned Parenthood bashing.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) issued a letter firmly committing himself and the Empire State to Planned Parenthood.
“Here in New York we will not defund Planned Parenthood – not now and not in the future,” Cuomo wrote.
