MSNBC is putting together extended documentaries about both Mitt Romney and President Obama that will air prior to the parties’ respective convenctions, POLITICO has learned.

NBC News political director Chuck Todd sat down with Mitt Romney for a taped interview today that will be featured in the documentary airing prior to the Republican National Convention at the end of this month. An NBC spokesperson, who confirmed the interview and documentary to Romney’s press pool, said it would air on August 24, but later walked that back. Portions of Romney’s interview may also air earlier on NBC Nightly News.

POLITICO could not immediately confirm whether President Obama had agreed to sit down with MSNBC for an interview. (Watch here for updates)

The films were described as “biographical political documentaries” by a source at MSNBC; a spokesperson with the network did not respond for comment.
